Started on the 705 bulkhead. The first step is cutting several pieces (I hate to say that this constitutes fabrication work) to size.
Here
are the pieces that need to be fabricated (ok, I used the word.)
Then
you match drill the 705B & 605C to the 705A. Remember drawing lines
down the middle of the ribs of the tail section, same thing again. Just
one note: The 605C is trimmed to reduce weight (I guess that's why).
I think it would always be better to do the trimming of any part after the holes
are drilled. Then you don't have to worry about rivet spacing against the
edge. I tend to remember this after the fact!
Pre-assembled,
ready to be taken apart, deburred and primed before riveting.
I
finished the assembly of the 705 bulkhead. This was the only piece that
gave me trouble. How these pieces fit together is clearly defined in the
upper right hand corner of the drawings but I had stuff (a calculator of all
things) laying on the drawing covering up this detail.
The
finished product. The cleco's are in the holes that don't get riveted at
this time. (I stick a cleco in the holes that are not being riveted at
this time prior to starting to rivet.)
August 10, 2002 3 hours (evening)
I picked back up in the evening and started on the 706 bulkhead.
The
729A and 729B angle riveted together. The 728A and 729B angle is
fabricated but not riveted together at this time.
This
is where it all comes together. The 728 is vertical, the 729 is horizontal
and both are attached to the 706A(I think it's 706A). The clamp at the top is
holding the 706C (??) angle in place to be drilled.
After riveting this center section together, the 706C L&R are clecoed in place at the top.
I de-burred the edges of the remaining bulkheads and fluted a couple of them to straighten them up. I fabricated a couple of the 711 reinforcing plates and angle. I did get all these primed so I can start assembling them tomorrow.

Worked some more on the remainder of the bulkheads.
Finished the bulkheads.
