After finishing with the aileron bell cranks, I pulled out the flap spars and ribs.  First step always is the usual "scotch-briting" the litening holes and edges of the ribs and spars.

Then the bottom skin to the skeleton.

Make the spacers for the end ribs to skin.IM000584.JPG (43625 bytes)  I also needed to make some spacers for between the end of the ribs and the rear spar (rear spar is bent in the skin).  I made these about 5/8" wide by 1" long.  They are a little longer than really necessary but the extra length should make it easier to hold while drilling.  That's all for tonight.

I've clecoed and drilled both of the flaps together.  They are ready to take apart and the usual deburr, dimple & prime.  Then rivet them together.  Some of the highlights:

Started deburring and dimpling the spars, ribs and skin.  I had intended to prime some of the parts but my exhaust fan fell out of the window and broke.  I need to make a trip to the hardware store and get another one.

With summer being a busy time for me, I haven't done a very good job of documenting progress as I just manage to work an hour or so at odd times.  Since the last update, I have managed to get both of the flaps riveted together.  Here are a few pictures of the construction process. (Sorry for the lack of detail or organization.)

I made these "V" blocks to hold the flap.  Honestly, I didn't like working with these.  I didn't take the time to attach them to the table and they were a bigger pain than help.  I didn't use them on the second flap and got a better, straighter result.

IM000620.JPG (46240 bytes)On the second flap, I just clecoed everything together and worked off the bench.  It was easier for me.  This is one of those "whatever works for your" choices.

IM000621.JPG (21296 bytes)Here is the right attach bracket.  I attached the skins to all the spars, riveted the top skin to the bottom skin and then riveted the end rib in place.  I installed the nut plate after the rib was installed.  Just remember to install it prior to sealing everything up by installing the spar. (no, I didn't forget. )

IM000622.JPG (40607 bytes)I clamped the flap down to keep it straight.
