I'm planning on this being an IFR machine so I want a heated pitot. I installed the Gretz pitot mount tonight. This was pretty simple. I don't have the pitot yet so I couldn't finish but it's ready to install.
The first step was to determine where to mount the pitot. I wanted to
mount the pitot as far outboard as possible to get away from the tie down
bracked. I clecoed the bottom skin in place to make sure I could reach the pitot
for future maintenance.
Here are the contents of the kit.
The first step is to attach a piece of angle to the rib to mount the bracket. I had screwed up one of the ribs on the leading edge so I cut my angle from this rib. (Ignore the multiple holes, the original rib had #30 holes and I needed #40 so I drilled new holes.)
This
is the backplate clecoed in place.
I remounted the skin and drilled the holes and marked the skin to cut out for the pitot.
The
bracket clecoed to the skin after cutting the hole in the skin.
This
is what it would look like without the skin.
And
finally, with the skin in place.
I finally got around to installing to pitot tube. I used aluminum all
the way out to the bulkhead.
The heated pitot came in a couple months ago but I hadn't ever installed the required tubing or wiring. I still haven't ran the wiring but here's what my tubing looks like.
I
made a short piece of tubing to allow future maintenance. Both the short piece
of tubing and the long run is terminated in the rib.
I
moved the pitot line towards the edge of the first two ribs to dodge the aileron
bell crank and push rod. I then went back to the pre-drilled holes in the center
of the ribs.
I terminated the tubing in the inboard bulkhead with a straight fitting. All that remains is the wiring.
